About Ultrasound

Glendale MRI Institute now has a new state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging unit, in which high resolution scanning can be performed, not only of the abdominal and pelvic organs, but also of the vascular and musculoskeletal systems.

The newest technical advances in ultrasound imaging, incorporating the principles of Native Tissue Harmonics Imaging, are available to us with our new imaging unit, thus permitting higher resolution and more precise anatomic evaluation of the deep pelvic and abdominal anatomy than was ever available before. This technique is especially helpful in large-body patients who have been extremely difficult to examine with traditional ultrasound scanners. It also allows for detailed analysis of the liver in patients, who because of fatty infiltrative hepatic disorders, had also presented difficulties in imaging. Even in patients without these inherent problems, NTHI allows accurate visualization of lesions (i.e. small hepatic tumors) that are not visible on conventional ultrasound scanners.

Alongside these new technical advances, our utilization of new ultrasound contrast agents also permits us to obtain much better definition in the evaluation of liver tumors than was previously possible.

In addition to these advances in traditional abdominal and pelvic scanning techniques, new advances in high frequency/high resolution scanning transducers now allow us to perform highly detailed anatomic analysis of the musculoskeletal system, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist and ankle, as well as the spine and spinal cord.

With our newer Doppler imaging capabilities, we can now offer extremely accurate anatomic visualization, as well as valuable physiologic information of the arteries and veins in the neck, abdomen and pelvis.

The small size and portability of the equipment allows for valuable intra-operative utilization, such as real-time tumor localization in the brain, abdomen and pelvis.
